With the Fall semester well underway, outreach in the Douglas group is in full swing. Events thus far have included a trip to the Crow Reservation in Montana and Frankenscience, with a Science Saturday and a trip to South Africa still to come. Earlier this month a group from the Douglas brought Science Satruday to the Crow Reservation. Science Saturdays were held at two sites on the Reservation, one at Pryor and one at Crow Agency. The students at both sites learned the science behind sticky notes, geckos, and velcro. The day was a great success, with many of the students interested in coming to Bozeman to attend another Science Satruday, which will hopefully be happening in November.
Members of the Douglas lab have also been participating in Frankenscience, a Halloween themed science outreach event put on by the Undergraduate Chemistry Society. The first event was held in conjuction with the Museum of the Rockies and the second event will be held tonight (October 29) at the chemistry modular buildings. At the Frankenscience events students from all around the Gallitin Valley are invited to come watch Halloween themed science experiments like gunpowder cotton, eerie lights, and oozing pumpkins. The Frankenscience event at the MOR went went very well, with many children excited to attend tonights event.
As for future outreach events there are plenty in store. As stated Science Saturday is coming up in November, the 14th to be exact, and the South Africa trip is quickly approaching. Keep checking back for more outreach updates!
